The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius is a modern church in Buchbach, Upper Franconia. The modern church was built in 1970/71 as a replacement for a Laurentius church in the village center from 1754. On August 15, 1971, the congregation celebrated the inauguration of the church, which is also called "Cathedral of the Franconian Forest" in descriptions.

The first Laurentius Church in Buchbach from 1754 stood in the center of the village, but it no longer met the requirements.

Pastor Reinhold Goldmann, who came to Buchbach in 1964, therefore decided to build a new church. True to the words of Jesus (Mt. Gerhard Mantke from Darmstadt, made plans based on the ideas and thoughts of the pastor at the time.

The foundation stone was laid on July 18, 1970 and just over a year later, on August 15, 1971, the inauguration of the new church was celebrated. This is thanks to the tireless diligence of the client, but above all to the extraordinary diligence of the Buchbach citizens. All of the timber was donated, many thousands of marks donated and collected throughout the Franconian Forest and beyond. Church members volunteered 40,000 hours during the construction period. This allows the basic hexagonal shape of the main church to be interpreted as a honeycomb, which stands for the hard work of the Buchbachers in building churches.
