The Ternaaien Locks (French: Les écluses de Lanaye) are a collection of locks in Ternaaien, Belgium, on the border with the Netherlands near Maastricht. The locks are the junction between the Ternaaien Canal and the Albert Canal. The largest of the four locks, built in 2015, allows passage for ships of 9,000 tonnes, measures 225 metres long, 25 metres wide and has a draught of 13.68 metres.
At the locks, the Albert Canal was built with the Doorsteek van Caestert across the Sint-Pietersberg.

Largest inland navigation lock in Europe

The fourth lock of Ternraai connects the Albert Canal with the Maas, on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands, and removes the former bottle neck. The capacity between the Albert Canal and the Dutch Meuse was increased from 2000 ton convoys to 9000.

The lock is enormous: 225 meters long, 25 meters wide and a height difference of no less than 14 meters. Such a huge lock required a huge sheet pile wall to demarcate the lock wall. Made for us! We installed more than 5,600 sheet piles, short and long ranging from 3.70 to 33.50 meters. If you were to put them one after the other, you would arrive at approximately 67 km, the total length of our Belgian Coast. Expressed in weight, we speak of no less than 10,495 tons of steel.
