The village is located on the hill above the town of Marano sul Panaro, and can be reached from Via Sassoccia.
The hill on which the Borgo di Campiglio stands is the site of human settlements documented since the Neolithic.
From its ridge you can enjoy a splendid view of Vignola and its valley.
The toponym of Campiglio derives from the Latin Campilius, meaning agricultural field.
The medieval village later developed around the castle and the market, becoming a fief of the Da Campiglio family and, starting from the 1400s, of the Rangoni marquises.
The Rocca remained the seat of the Podesta office until the Napoleonic era. The autonomy of the Community of Campiglio ended only with the appointment of Vignola as the capital of the canton of the Panaro Department.
For a few weeks, on Sundays, during the month of May near the church, volunteers fry some excellent fried dumplings, not to be missed.
