Located directly on the banks of the Saale, the former Freyberg brewery still exudes a special charm. The architecturally remarkable building complex dates from the end of the 19th century and thus from the time of the economic heyday of the city of Halle. In the mid-1930s, the brewery was one of the largest private breweries in all of Germany. Up to 100,000 hectoliters of beer were produced in 1931.

Like many other production facilities, the brewery was nationalized after the Second World War and continued to brew under changing names until 1993. Then, unfortunately, the company was shut down.

In the meantime, some outbuildings have been demolished. In the next few years, apartments with a view of the Saal will be built in the walls that still exist.
