Here, after the raft slide behind Mühltal, the canal comes back to the Isar. A worthwhile little hike.
The Mühltal Canal was built together with the Mühltal run-of-river power plant from 1920-1924.
In the formerly natural wide river bed between the confluence of the Loisach in the Isar and Baierbrunn there were several natural islands around which the Isar meandered with several rivers. With the construction of the Mühltal hydropower plant instead of two former mills, the Mühltal Canal was built and the Isar was pushed into a single river bed, creating a single elongated island between the canal and the Isar from the Ickinger Weir.
