"On the north-western edge of Westerkappeln lies the former manor house Haus Cappeln.
Its origins go back to the counts of Ravensberg, who had manorial and sovereign rights in Westerkappeln in the 12th century.
Around 1100, Count Hermann von Ravensberg had a secondary castle built in Westerkappeln next to the main castle near Borgholzhausen....."

Since 1964, the estate has been converted and expanded into a representative "manor house".
