Whilst this may be an interesting stop for geology buffs, we stopped by to see Rosie The Shark.
Killed in a fishing net in South Australia in 1998, Rosie was shipped via refrigerated truck to Victoria, getting taxidermied along the way after reports of a missing swimmer in the area in which Rosie was captured necessitated an autopsy.
From 1998 to 2012, Rosie was one of the main attractions at the now-defunct animal park, Wildlife Wonderland. Amid reports of animal abuse and operating without proper licenses, Wildlife Wonderland was shut down and Rosie was left to float in her tank, forgotten.
In 2018, an uban explorer accidentally rediscovered Rosie while picking his way through the derelict animal enclosures. After video footage of his exploration went viral, the ruins of the wildlife park were inundated with trespassers and both Rosie and her tank were heavily vandalized.
Local authorities deemed Rosie's enclosure a bio-hazard after cracks in her tank began emitting formaldehyde fumes; her days seemed tragically numbered. In 2019, Tom Kapitany, renowned geologist and director of Crystal World Exhibition Centre, came to Rosie's rescue, relocating her to Crystal World and funding the bulk of her restoration.
