The former Zeller Tor is part of the bastion fortifications and is marked with the year 1666.

Zeller Strasse leads south past the gate. The east side of the gate is on Nigglweg.

A Zeller gate already existed in 1386, as evidenced by a Würzburg council document. Today's Zeller Tor was built by Antonio Petrini in 1664. Since the wall to the south of the gate was breached in 1870, the moat was dammed and a free exit was created, the gate no longer fulfills its original purpose. In the post-war period, the Zeller Tor served the Zellerau fire brigade as a temporary place to stay, as the actual fire station was destroyed in March 1945.

It is named after the municipality of Zell a. Main in the direction of which the main road ran at that time.

The gate with a curved passage (the curvature offered protection from direct penetration) is made of limestone and sandstone and has a small guardhouse on the outside. The outside shows a gabled, clearly structured rustikaportal with a coat of arms of Johann Philipp von Schönborn and side decorations. The inside, on the other hand, is much simpler and also bears Schönborn's coat of arms. To the side are the gate guards' rooms. The portcullis house on Wall no longer exists.

The moat bridge, 59 meters long, was arched in stone in 1754; the two pillars in the middle carried a seesaw bridge like the other gates. Nothing is known about the demolition of the bridge. Next to the inner facade stood the inner gate guard house, which burned down in 1945 but was rebuilt and housed the environmental station of the city of Würzburg until 2019. In the arsenal on the other side of the trench was the outer guard and examiner's house, which was rebuilt as the Zeller gatehouse by Peter Speeth in his own style after it was destroyed in the wars of liberation.
