The church was built in 1910 in the Art Nouveau style. It replaced a previous building whose masonry was damp and the timbers were dilapidated - also a result of the recurring floods.
In 1992/93 the Gustav Adolf Church was restored and the original Art Nouveau elements, which had been removed in the meantime, were restored.

The Protestant parish came into being not long after the Reformation. In 1739 the Reformed congregation built a small church in Kirchstrasse. Before 1739 the Frei-Weinheimers went to church in the castle church in Ober-Ingelheim. In the 18th century there was also a small immigrant Lutheran congregation that had a small church on the corner of Rheinstrasse and Dammstrasse in 1753. In 1821 it merged with the United Community.
