The former Benedictine monastery of Gerode was first documented in 1124 and is the first monastic settlement in the Eichsfeld region. The monastery church, the monastery hall, and the former convent building were completed in 1800. In 1803, the monastery was secularized by Prussian decree.

Since 1994, the monastery has served as a health and training center for the "Weg der Mitte" association, a non-profit foundation.

Small, beautiful place and here is the Gerode Monastery with a total area of 10 hectares. We were there on a Monday and unfortunately the monastery was closed. It is open on weekends and public holidays. A lovely lady who noticed us let us in and gave us a short tour of the monastery. Was very interesting and beautiful. Many thanks to this nice lady at this point 👍👍
