According to legend, it stands on the spot where one of the leaders in the Battle of Grafenberg, Count Poppo von Henneberg, is said to have fallen on August 7, 1078.
According to popular opinion, it is a memorial stone for him.
But that is impossible because the wayside shrine dates back to the 17th century.
In addition, Henneberger was not killed, but badly wounded and died on the way home, to his Henneburg, opposite Werner's cutting mill in Mellrichstadt, on Stockheimer Strasse.
That was the reason for building the chapel on that spot.
