Name for the hamlet in the east of Hamme near the Scheldt, which here forms the border with the province of Antwerp. Old toponym referring to the three inlets, gutters or holes in the Scheldt bank opposite Weert, between the confluence with the Durme and the border with Moerzeke. On the map of Moerzeke from 1571 by P. Buck and F. Horenbault indicated with "Dry Ghote" as a place with limited development where several roads and dikes converged; the representation of a sailing boat refers to an old landing place with Scheldt ferry. The street used to be partly called Conckeldijkstraat and formed part of the road connection that leads from the municipal centre over the Oostkouter to the ferry of Driegoten. The Driegoten-Weert foot ferry still exists here, now mainly for the purpose of walking and cycling tourism. (Inventory of Immovable Heritage)

The many restaurants and ferry service – Driegoten are located on a fiercely contested piece of Flemish land and water.
Driegoten is an old toponym that refers to the former three inlets, gutters or holes in the Scheldt bank and which had a strategic importance.

In the Middle Ages (1583-1585) the "Schansse van Dry Goten", a military construction, is said to have stood at this location.

During the 'Eighty Years' War - the siege of Dendermonde', the entire military fortress was taken out of frustration and anger on the orders of Duke of Parma Alexander Farnese and ordered to be demolished.

For centuries, this remote corner in Hamme was left untouched.

It was not until the 18th century that the substructure was rediscovered and used again to build on.
The new destination was "d'herberge op drygotten".
In the 19th century, the entire site was expanded to what it is today. Inns and ferry houses were built on the old foundations of the military fortress. Later these houses became restaurants and without knowing it we enjoy our snack, dish or drink on historical foundations today…

De Bunt, Mira and the mouth of the Durme are our objective…
De Bunt is a real discovery, you walk along old peat extraction pits.
The historic Mira bridge has fulfilled our expectations.
The banks of the Durme bring peace to the landscape.
Until the Sigma plan (Working on a controlled flood area) prevents us from discovering the mouth.
Return and take a chance via the Driegoten Domain Forest. Unfortunately, we were wasted…
The mouth of the Durme and the statue of Filip De Pillecyn can be admired again from 2022.
Ah, fortunately we didn't have to fight the elements today.
The sun was out and the Scheldeland was wind-free.
