                The renaturalization of the canalized Isar River between Dingolfing and Landau has received international attention for years.

                The Lower Isar River in Lower Bavaria, tamed and canalized by humans, is now free to flow again near Landau. It has created a new island with a tributary – a Lower Bavarian atoll, without connection to the mainland, a spectacular wild river landscape.

                The Isar is transporting gravel to new shallow water zones, and rare birds are returning. The Little Ringed Plover, which had already disappeared here, was one of the first to reclaim the wild banks, breeding on one of the new gravel banks in its very first year.
