    There is a small vantage point on the southern side of Harald-Krug-See. From there you have a great view of the nature reserve. The cycle path here leads over a mixture of sand and gravel, but is easy to drive on. A steep ascent leads towards the northern shore of Lake Bockwitz.

        The Bockwitzer See was created as a post-mining landscape near Borna, south of Leipzig, from the former brown coal opencast mine Borna-Ost/Bockwitz, which was flooded from 1993 to 2005 by rising groundwater. The lake was named after the devastated Bockwitz estate. Like the neighboring Harthsee, it belongs to the “Leipziger Neuseenland”.
