If you want, you can return to Livorno with a circular route: therefore, continue the climb for a couple of km to the highest point (370 m above sea level); then, after 0.8 km of steep descent, you find a crossroads. Here, instead of continuing straight towards Colognole, turn right; after about 1.4 km, at the next crossroads towards the hamlet of Gabbro or Livorno, turn right again, staying on Via di Popogna: a long, fast and shaded descent (8-10 km) will quickly bring you back to the gates of the city.
