West to east is easier, east to west gives 2 tough climbs on far from ideal surfaces... unless on a more rugged bike. The west side dip is very rough and care needs to be taken with the descents (and initially picking the right line for the climb out, though it improves). It even comes with its own ford in the winter! The east side dip also has a somewhat sketchy descent (going west to east) though nowhere near as bad as the west side. The climb out past the hairpin is lovely, 4-6% and gives lovely views.
