The Egbert colliery was a hard coal mine near Herbede. It was the last small mine in the Ruhr area.
From 1962 to 1976, about six miners mined coal at a depth of 135 meters. Up to two tons of coal were extracted and transported away per man and working day. This is an amount per miner that is not significantly exceeded even in modern mines. The pit water flowed through an hereditary tunnel into the nearby Ruhr, so there was no need for costly dewatering in the ton-long shaft.
When the colliery stopped mining on June 22, 1976 after 14 years of operation, coal mining in the Ennepe-Ruhr district ended.
