      The construction of the later three-winged monastery complex began in 1682 with the installation of the vaulted cellar and the new sacristy and ultimately lasted until 1732. A year before completion, a new church building was also started, replacing the old Gothic church from 1359. The first service in the new baroque building was held in 1736 and the church was consecrated in 1746.

        The mighty church building was intended to express the triumph of the Counter-Reformation, which ended Spabrücken's more than 100-year-old Protestant period. Since then, the place has been a Catholic stronghold in a predominantly Protestant or mixed-denominational environment. The pilgrimages in September and the flower-bedecked processions on Corpus Christi are also demonstrations of conservatism. In contrast to this is the grandiose view from Weißenfels (only 3 km above) to the Rheingau, Odenwald and Donnersberg.
