The Klumpertal is a very beautiful, relaxed valley with a few trout ponds. The valley is named after the Klumpermühle, which used to stand in the upper stream of the Weiherbach. The rattling or "clumping" of the mill gave the valley its name.

The mill was built in 1580 by Lorenz von Guttenberg (owner of the castle Kühlenfels), but was soon torn down by the residents of Pottenstein as an undesirable competition. Therefore, a dispute flared up again and again until the then Bamberg bishop intervened and arbitrated, with the stipulation that the grind was only for himself and the residents of the manor.

In the 1810s, the Bavarian original cadastre recorded a modest outbuilding, a pond house, a 40 m wide dam and a 3700 m² mill pond, which is fed by two springs, in addition to the “Klumpersmühle”.

In 1875 the Klumpermühle had four residents and three buildings. In 1904 two more residents were counted. In 1926 the mill was finally stopped. The place is no longer mentioned in the official register of places from 1952. The Klumpermühle was part of the former municipality of Kühlenfels. Today only remains of ruins and the fish ponds, which have now been divided into several parcels, are left. At the end of the valley or at the end of the pond you can also find the Klumperquelle.

The Jägersteig runs above the Klumpertal valley. From here you can look into the Klumpertal between bizarre rock formations.
