From this delightful little bridge and its surroundings at the northern end of Bassenthwaite is a wonderful view of the North and North Western Lakeland Fells. Bassenthwaite's location in the north of the national park makes it quieter than the likes of Ullswater, Derwent Water and Windermere. However, it is technically the only lake in the Lake District, the others being meres and waters.

Crossing over the Ouse Bridge, the water rushes from the Derwent River to the west into Bassenthwaite to the east. The location of Bassenthwaite in the quieter northern end of the national park can make this a more tranquil lake to visit.
