        From 1700 to 1703 Knauthain Castle was built for Karl-Hildebrand von Dieskau according to plans by David Schatz. It was built in the French-Classicist style on the site of the old moated castle. Later, the park surrounding the castle was created, to which the public, however, had no access.

        Due to financial difficulties, the Dieskau family had to sell the castle in 1753. The von Hohenthal family became the new owner. Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Hohenthal, who was the royal envoy to the Prussian court, had the palace renovated in 1868 and the park redesigned in the English style.

              Knauthain Castle is a castle in Knauthain, now a district of Leipzig, which stylistically belongs to the transition period from Renaissance to Baroque architecture. Above the entrance, the following inscription, set into a plaque made of Rochlitz porphyry, provides information in Latin about the castle's origins:

              The translation is:

              "Carl Hildebrand, Lord of Dieskau, by inheritance also Lord of Knauthain, Kleinzschocher and Cospuden, must be particularly praised before the world; he, who built this house and decorated it properly, was the founder of this property. Homage should be paid to him daily. May he live! May he be happy. May his ancestor not lose his strength. May he preserve his house, and may God always protect it too. In contrast to the castle, the park is open to the public.

                    You can reach the Cossi in the north by bus (LVB line 65) or on foot from the end of tram line 3 in Knauthain. The latter access route takes us past the Knauthainer Castle, which used to house the school and is now home to an IT company. The castle and the beautiful public castle park designed by the Engelsdorf municipal enterprise are worth a visit at any time of the year.
