Wester's house was originally the service home of the water pump operator. At one point the pumps were powered by electricity and from then on the house became vacant. Today it is home to various birds and other creatures. Swifts and house martins, among others, like to stay here. The natterjack toads regularly visit the cellar and the butterflies hibernate in the toilet. You can walk freely through the house!

Around 1890, the Huis van het Wester was the service residence of the water pump engineer. At the time there was a machine pump building where he operated the steam pump steam pumps.
Until 1917, engineer Pool lived here with his family. From 1924 the pumps were electrically driven and an operator was no longer required. The steam pump pumped the water from the Westerkanaal to the Zwarteveld Canal or the Barnaart Canal, where it flowed out into the Oranjekom. The Huis van het Wester is the only house in the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. Many houses and farms were removed by the Germans during the war.

The Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes are located between Zandvoort and Noordwijk. The area is about 5 kilometers wide and about 10 kilometers long.

The Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen is a water extraction area. This is also a nature reserve full of special animals. You can enjoy a lovely walk here, with a good chance of encountering a fox. Or sand lizard and kingfisher.
