The Dresden-Gittersee train station, which can be reached after almost six kilometers up the mountain, was built in 1907 when the old coal branch railway was converted into a public railway line. The station building, which today houses the Windberg Railway Museum, was also erected.

Dresden-Gittersee station is on the Windbergbahn line, which was officially opened on April 1, 1857.
In January 1994 the official cessation of freight traffic on the remaining section took place. Today an association Windbergbahn e. V. to maintain the train stations and the train and car park. You can find out when the station is open and trains run here: windbergbahn.de/index.php
