The Crown Liquor Saloon, also known as the Crown Bar, was extensively renovated in 1885, 1978 and 2007; the last two restorations alone cost 900,000 U $.

Today the Crown Bar is an excellent example of a Victorian gin palace and one of the most famous pubs in Northern Ireland.

A well-known landmark in Belfast, The Crown has hosted numerous film and television productions such as David Caffrey's "Divorcing Jack" (1998) and Carol Reed's 1947 classic Odd Man Out.

The crown has been given the status of "Grade A listed Building" by the Environment and Heritage Service.

Located on Great Victoria Street, the Crown Liquor Saloon is probably Northern Ireland's most famous pub. Originally opened by Felix O'Hanlon and then known as The Railway Tavern, the house was eventually taken over by Michael Flanagan, whose son Patrick renovated it in 1885 and gave it its current name. The building is worth visiting simply because of its wonderful architecture and the magnificent interior, which was restored in the Victorian style in 1978. What is striking about the interior are the ten adjoining rooms, which were used by more reserved guests.

The Crown dates back to 1826, when the first train ran from Belfast to Lisburn. The Crown Liquor Saloon on Great Victoria Street in Belfast was perhaps the largest Victorian gin palace to once flourish in Britain's industrial cities.
