The Viermannekesbrug owes its name to a folk tale. When the king, it is unclear which one, passed through the lands here, he arrived at Beerze. Crossing was not possible, however, because the bridge was washed away by the high water. Four men then stood side by side in the water, with a beam over their back. And so the king was able to get to the other side dry.

To straighten something
De Beerze used to be straightened by man. As a result, the water quickly flowed to the river and the landscape dried up. The Water Board, the municipality of Oirschot, ZLTO and Natuurmonumenten have made the Beerze winding again. This will restore a piece of cultural history and the water will stay in this area longer, so that the area dries up less quickly. This project was called the "Viermannekesbrug project". In this context, many different trees and shrubs have also been planted, including alder, willow, rowan and birch.
