The cathedral was consecrated in 1697.

The pulpit, altarpiece, and organ façade with acanthus carvings are original. Extensive ceiling paintings date from 1936 to 1950.

The stained glass windows are by Emanuel Vigeland.

The arcades surrounding the cathedral were added between 1841 and 1858.

The largest and oldest church in Oslo is the Cathedral in the center of the city. I find it interesting that it is an evangelical church and that the cathedral was called Vår Frelsers kirke, which means Church of the Redeemer in German, until 1950. The cathedral was consecrated in 1697.

The Oslo Cathedral was built in 1697 and was originally known as Vår Frelsers Kirke, which means "Our Savior's Church". It was designed by an unknown architect, but it is believed that Anthony Coucheron, a Norwegian engineer, was involved in its construction.
