When the Roman squire was alive, the Limes watchtowers stood up there, within sight of the villa. A signal flare could quickly alert.
Because of its lavish furnishings, there is an assumption that the Villa Haselburg was not a classic Roman estate, but rather a summer residence of Roman nobility from Dieburg. But that is not proven.

The Roman Villa Haselburg was a manor (so-called Villa rustica) from the time of the colonization of the Odenwald by the Romans. The complex, largely visible after archaeological excavations, near the village of Hummetroth near Höchst in the Odenwald in Hesse, is designed as an open-air museum and freely accessible.
The villa rustica "Haselburg" is one of the several hundred well-known manors from the Roman era in Hesse. It is the largest known facility of this type and the most extensively researched by excavations.
