The Killingerhaus on König-Adolf-Platz 7 is one of the outstanding half-timbered houses in the listed as an entire complex Idsteiner old town. Like the Unionskirche and the Höerhof, it bears the international symbol for the protection of cultural property according to the Hague Convention. It testifies to the upswing and flourishing of bourgeois-urban life shortly before the Thirty Years War. The Killingerhaus is a three-storey town house with a magnificent gable front in a central location on König-Adolf-Platz. The façade is dominated by an octagonal bay with a gable that juts out over both half-timbered upper floors and projects over a strut bundle over the massive ground floor, which replicates the shape of the main gable. Fränkische oriels frame the windows of the upper storeys and, like the corner posts, are decorated with rich carvings that combine numerous renaissance-typical jewelery motifs such as columns, tendrils, candelabra and mask consoles.

The so-called Killingerhaus, now a tourist information office and city museum, is one of the most beautiful of the Idstein half-timbered houses and has the richest carved ornamentation. It was built in 1615 by the count's clerk Johann Conrad Killing (d. 1630) and his wife Anna Margarethe Loeber, daughter of the Nassau bailiff in (Bad) Ems. The Killing couple remained childless. That is why the house has had new owners over the centuries. In 1916 the city acquired the listed property.
