Legend has it that in the 13th century a shepherd was cured here after drinking from a well. To commemorate this, a chapel and wayside cross were built. Behind the chapel you will find a fen surrounded by extensive heath and dry sand ridges. It is pleasant to walk in this forest (10 ha)!

Let's start with a story: where does the beautiful name Kruiskensberg come from for this place of pilgrimage? An old text tells that a very sick shepherd drank from a well around 1260 and was suddenly healed. When this became known, a wooden cross was erected and the pilgrims flocked to it. In the 17th century, five wells were dug to symbolize the five wounds of Christ. In the 19th century, these pits were built in stone, a chapel was built and the lord Florent le Grelle, the lord of the castle of the Rameyenhof, donated a large iron cross. The great pilgrimage day is Good Friday when believers still come to do the Stations of the Cross. Nature lovers will also find what they are looking for here: on the domain behind the chapel there is a heathland and around the fen is an extensive moist heath, interspersed with dry sandy ridges. The whole is now a municipal walking forest with an area of 10 ha.
