The Ahlem Tower used to be an excursion venue that was initially only open for dancing on Sundays. A small zoo was even built.
During the Second World War, the top of the tower was broken off to establish an anti-aircraft position. After the war it was a girls' dormitory, later an elementary school, a refugee home and a boarding school for special needs students. In the end it was used by the highway police. The building, built in 1897 in the homestyle by architect Alfred Sasse, is a listed building and is now used by a Thai community
