          The much-noticed Daun citizenship project “Philosophers for the Philosophenweg” consists of disused gravestones with quotes from well-known philosophers along the forest and hiking trail over the Wehrbüsch near Daun.
          Franziskus Wendels initiated the project at the time.

          The Philosopher's Trail is a forest path on the edge of Daun. At a length of around two kilometers, it leads as a circular path around the “Wehrbüsch”, a densely wooded hill. The Wehrbüsch Chapel, a war memorial as well as basalt rocks and wonderful viewpoints are on this path.

            The Dauner Beautification Association, predecessor of the Eifel Association of 1888, had set itself the task of beautifying the surrounding area of Daun. This in particular through the creation of shady footpaths, resting places and vantage points in the vicinity (Wehrbüsch, Gemündener Maar. Firmerich). With the erection of the oldest war memorial on German soil in 1870/71, several circular routes were created at the same time, the most beautiful of which were given the names Poetenweg and Philosophenweg. They are still among the most popular walking paths through the Wehrbüsch. This is a 492-meter-high volcanic slag crest from which you have a wonderful view of the city, Gemünden, the Lieser and Pützbach valleys, as well as the highest Eifel mountains (Hohe Acht, Ernstberg, Nerother Kopp, Scharteberg, Mauseberg, etc.). The district's traffic school, where students learn the rules of road traffic, is right there.
