Crossroads on the ridge of the "Little Thuringian Forest", probably the "Iron Hand" originated from a Celtic relic with the meaning "Berghof", presumably a rest area and rest area used to stand here. At least this is found as a possible interpretation.

Central crossroads with covered seating for resting on the Altendambacherhöhe - this is where paths coming from the valley from Schleusingen, Erlau and Keulrod meet and lead on over the Schleusinger Berg to Suhl and the Rennsteig. The Iron Hand may have once been a place where the horses of the carriages were changed on the way through the Thuringian Forest.
