Review of April 28, 2021:
The New Castle Tylsen, which was built in the years 1620/21, is only a ruin, because only parts of the outer walls are still standing. But that's also somehow its charm, the Tylsen castle ruins are a great "lost place" and a wonderful photo opportunity.
The castle survived the Second World War unscathed, it was only destroyed in 1948/49 during the land reform that was ordered by the Soviet military leadership in the Soviet occupation zone at the time.
The castle was considered one of the most magnificent castles in the Altmark. In 2015 it was decided that the ruin, which was in danger of collapsing, should be secured and supported.
The village of Tylsen is also well worth seeing, along a cobblestone street that looks medieval, there are some very beautiful, old half-timbered houses.
Addendum from 10/31/2021:
Unfortunately, due to the danger of collapse, the castle ruins in Tylsen are largely cordoned off at the moment. I've read that the ruins are supposed to be secured from collapsing, supposedly before the end of this year, but according to some articles it's not entirely clear how this will be financed in full, most of it will probably be financed from funds from the European Agricultural Fund.

Today I cycled to Tylsen again. In the meantime, the ruins have been secured and you can enter the site again.
