    You are at the main entrance to the largest visitable Provençal Colorado in the region. Located in the town of Rustrel, the site has real paths that evolve among ocher formations and a beautiful pine forest. A true kaleidoscope of colors, these sandstones are the work of an ancient sea (Thétys) which came to deposit these impressive strata. This sandstone thus forms a very beautiful sedimentary rock.

    Although the site is large, it is a victim of its success and generates large numbers of visitors during the summer period. It is therefore preferable to come and admire it early in the morning or out of season.

    At the very beginning of the hike, there is a hut at the edge of a stream that sells drinks and snacks.

                        From a short walk to a full-day hike, everything is possible.
                        The ochre cliffs are the main attraction in Rustrel.

                        As a pilgrimage to the ochre quarries almost always leads first to Roussillon, our "signpost" should start there. Simply take the road towards Apt and then follow the signs. There is no entrance fee in Rustrel, but you do have to pay for the parking lot. For a few euros, you can park your car there for the whole day. If you like, you can actually spend the whole day in the ochre cliffs of Rustrel. They are so extensive that it is worth planning a long hike. But if you are not so good on foot or have to consider others, you will also get your money's worth.

                        The highlights of the ochre cliffs can be reached after a relatively short walk. Take the path signposted "Chemin de fées" and come to rock formations that point vertically into the sky.
