Majestic Cathedral on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. Great architecture that fits seamlessly into the fabric of the city. The square around the cathedral is also very nice, including the Heart of Midlothian.

St Giles’ Cathedral, founded in 1124 by King David I, has been a working church for almost 900 years. A backdrop to Scotland’s turbulent religious history, it has seen the seeds of civil war sown and been John Knox’s parish church during the Reformation. It is still an important centre for civic services such as the Kirking of the Parliament and services for Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

St Giles’ Cathedral is open to all, to worship, to visit and to experience music, art and history within its walls.

St Giles Cathedral in the heart of the old town is a beautiful building, mostly Gothic. We especially liked the windows. The small Thistle Chapel with its rich furnishings definitely deserves a visit.

Great church. When I was there, a choir was singing. Very impressive, also thanks to the excellent acoustics. Taking pictures costs 2 GBP, it's well worth it.

St Giles' is one of Scotland's most important medieval parish church buildings. The first church of St Giles' was a small, Romanesque building of which only fragments remain. In the 14th century, this was replaced by the current building, which was enlarged between the late 14th and early 16th centuries.
