Recreation park Het Hulsbeek used to be an estate. The estate was owned by the Gelderman family, a well-known textile manufacturer family from Oldenzaal. The oldest mention from 1835 dates from the Manual of the Rentmeester van Twente, with the note: “vacat” (uninhabited). From the estimation register of Twente (Statsarchiv in Munster, so falling under the diocese) it can be deduced that in 1475 there were about twenty farms.
Landgoed Het Hulsbeek was purchased in 1970 by the Recreation Board Twente, today's Region Twente, land owner of Het Hulsbeek.
