This is an excellent campsite next to the PCT with a pit toilet and some shady spots next to two rivers. Don’t use the McCloud River as a water source since it carries lots of sediments. Use the crystal clear Hawkins Creek instead.
Ash Camp is a pleasant 'undeveloped' National Forest camping area though with a vault style toilet. There is no piped water available but plenty fresh creek water as it's at the confluence of Hawkins Creek into McCloud River. Ash Camp is now less used by car-campers as it became a walk-in site due to the 11 Road being closed to vehicular traffic about half a mile north below the dam.
