Actually, I much prefer to drive the old, little-traveled country road through the villages than the very well-developed bike path connection between Bolzano and Merano.

The cycle path along the Adige is more beautiful and flat: But if you want something different, especially a bit more undulating and still not too much traffic, I recommend the old country road on the orographic left, i.e. east side of the Adige Valley. Another advantage in the afternoon: the sun shines much longer here!
