The Schmutter is a 96-kilometer-long river in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia, which flows into the Danube from the right opposite Donauwörth after a generally northerly course. Between the Neusäß districts of Ottmarshausen and Neusäß, the Schmutter flows through a charming floodplain landscape that is attractive to both nature lovers and those seeking relaxation.
The river landscape is characterized by its natural design, with floodplain forests, wet meadows and a diverse range of flora and fauna. This area is part of the Schmuttertal biodiversity project, which promotes biodiversity and protects the natural habitat.
In Ottmarshausen is the former mill, a listed building from the late 19th century that is a reminder of the historical use of hydropower. The surrounding area also offers numerous vantage points with a view of the river landscape.
The city of Neusäß is committed to preserving and promoting biodiversity along the Schmutter as part of the Schmuttertal biodiversity project.
The Schmutter between Ottmarshausen and Neusäß offers a harmonious combination of nature experiences, leisure activities and cultural attractions.
