The karst cave located here in the white Jura on the Achal cycle path is one of the largest in the Swabian Jura with a floor area of 500 m² and a volume of 6000 m³. The cave itself consists of a passage about 15 meters long and a high hall adjoining it. Due to the finds made as early as the 19th century, it is an important archaeological site that provided crucial information on the settlement of the Ach Valley during the Ice Age. One of the best-known and most important finds is the "Venus vom Hohlefels" which dates back to 35,000 BC. Chr. is dated and is therefore the second oldest Venus figure of mankind. A total of around 80,000 stone tools and almost 300 pieces of jewelery have been recovered in the excavation history to date. The excavations are continued annually. The finds are on display at the URMU in Blaubeuren, among other places. The cave has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site "Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Jura" since 2017.

The cave is a so-called show cave and can be visited. It is currently closed. Information at: museum-schelklingen.de/aktuelles
