The fortified castle of Sully-sur-Loire is located on the banks of the Loire, along the EuroVelo 6 cycle path. Construction of the current castle began in 1396 but traces of castles on this location date back to 1102. Today , the castle, its moats and its park are perfectly maintained and it is possible to discover them alone or on a guided tour.

You can either explore the impressive moated castle on your own or join a guided tour.

Opening hours:
In July and August the castle is open every day from 10am to 7pm.
Guided tours are available at 11am, 2pm, 3:30 pm and 5pm.

In May, June and September the castle is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
Guided tours are available at 14.30 and 16.00.

Sully-sur-Loire Castle is located in the French town of Sully-sur-Loire on the eastern edge of the Sologne. It is one of the castles of the Loire and, together with the Loire Valley in 2000, was included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO.

The castle of Sully is located on the banks of the Loire - it used to be almost in the middle of the river. Therefore, the moat is particularly wide and extended to a pond behind the castle. The complex was built or rebuilt between the 14th and 17th centuries. The oldest part of the complex is the high donjon towards the Loire, which is surrounded by thick round towers at the corners. In the largest room of the castle, the Hall of Honor on the first floor of the Donjon, Voltaire had his tragedy "Artémise" performed when, exiled from Paris, he had found refuge in Sully.
