The visitor center of the Donau-Auen National Park is located in Orth Castle. A guided tour with interesting facts about the national park lasts around an hour. This is supported by the AuTheater and the climb to the observation tower is also worth it. 😊👍

The Lengenbacher, one of the most powerful aristocratic families in the Babenberg era, built the multi-tower moated castle. It was first mentioned in documents in 1201. The castle was destroyed in 1529 during the first Turkish siege and then rebuilt in the Renaissance style. In the 17th century it was used for court hunts and expanded in 1679/80 in a baroque style. The Habsburgs bought the castle in 1824. Crown Prince Rudolf used it as a hunting lodge and had it refurnished in a late historicist style around 1873.

Orth Castle was renovated in 2005 and houses the National Park Center of the Donau-Auen National Park and the museumORTH as well as an event center.
