Next to the former city gate in the southeast is the citizen tower, popularly known as the Witches Tower.
The Hexenturm on the southeastern edge of the medieval city is a defensive tower from 1461, which later served as a prison with its loopholes. Anna Maria Heinrich, who was accused of being a witch in 1713, spent her final months in the witch's tower before she ended up at the stake (this is how the tower got its name).
The tower was once given to the von Neipperg family as a city gift on the silver wedding anniversary of a count and was returned to the city of Schwaigern in 1986, whereupon the tower was extensively renovated. Together with the attached Reinwald house from the 17th century, it forms an attractive ensemble.
