Text from the board at the location of the tree:
The impressive old tree on Georg-Escherich-Straße was probably planted by the treasurer at the time on the occasion of Isen's market survey in 1434 and is therefore a natural monument that has been around for hundreds of years. The trunk circumference at the foot of the linden tree is over 6 meters, the crown branches stretch up like disheveled stumps. In 1894 a cyclone raged, which tore the market linden tree and damaged the trunk. In 1912 the hollow that was created at that time had to be walled up to preserve the tree, in the following years it was supported in different ways and the trunk, which is hollow in places, was further reinforced. The many fires that the stately tree had to endure have hit it very hard. But you didn't manage to destroy it.
You can see that it is almost 600 years old on the market linden tree - and yet it remains as a landmark of the market town, high above the main street.
