On the history of the Celtic stone circle of Sommerrangen:
On October 21, 1995, Sigi Höllein from Würzburg, Claudia Göller, Kai Schöffel from Frensdorf, Manfred Kichner from Burgebrach and Peter Wagner from Grasmannsdorf set out from Burgebrach with their horses on a day trip with a snack. The group came to this place around noon and decided to camp here in the most beautiful sunshine. A little wood was quickly collected and a small campfire was lit, whereupon some steaks and fried potatoes were sizzled. It was toasted with a couple of bottles of beer. It was agreed to celebrate this event every year on a weekend around October 21st here in this beautiful place. Peter Wagner, a teacher by profession, went one better and offered to carve a stone that we brought him with a motv every year. Since we were all interested in the pre-Christian culture of the Celts, the choice of motif was not difficult. Manfred, who had been dealing with the subject of the Celts for a long time, took over the selection of the motifs, which were copies of original motifs on objects that still existed. Peter then tried to make the best of it with his autodidactic stonemason skills. Every year a stone was then set on the feast day. On October 14th, 2008, after a long illness, our beloved stonemason Peter Wagner died at the age of 58 just before the stone festival. His illness did not allow him to cut his last stone for this year either. Peter had created a monument in his honor here with a Celtic stone circle. The rest of the group continues to celebrate an annual stone festival in Peter's memory.
