The megalithic tombs of north-west Germany are the most impressive

Witnesses to the Stone Age settlement of this landscape.

They were created about 5000 years ago (Neolithic Age) as burial places for several people, often used over long periods of time.

The megalithic tombs in north-west Germany are passage graves, and there are usually at least three capstones.

Probably because of the abundant building material

the burial sites were mostly in ground and end moraine areas

created.

In the past centuries, unfortunately, many megalithic tombs have been destroyed

destroyed, the stones often blown up and used to build roads, churches

and houses used.

This stone grave complex consists of 21 boulders.

The system is 11.0 m long, 4.0 m wide and reaches 1.8 m above ground level.

The largest stone is the capstone (length: 2.4 m, width: 1.8 m, height: 1.3 m). It weighs about 12 tons.
