The Obersee (official name Johannisbachtalsperre - Obersee) is an artificial reservoir in the Schildesche district of Bielefeld.

Before the Obersee was built, the Johannisbach and the Jölle regularly caused flooding in the Johannisbach valley, including in the area of today's lake. The lake, built between 1977 and 1982, 950 m long and a maximum of 300 m wide, dams these two streams and is regarded as a dam under water law with a permanent stowage volume of 385,000 m³.

The name Obersee indicates that another lake below the Obersee was planned. The original concept envisaged the Obersee as a more natural sedimentation basin for sediments of the tributaries in front of the actual flood protection basin. This lower, larger lake - the Untersee - should then be available for leisure use and water sports and should be planned and built at a later date. At the moment there are no concrete plans to carry out the planned expansion of the dam, because the project has been under discussion for several years for ecological, urban planning and, above all, financial reasons.
