There are four castles around Diepenheim that played an important role in the history of the city. Like the Huis Westerflier, they are all still inhabited and therefore cannot be visited. The country estates around it are freely accessible and absolutely worth seeing. After all, you can also take a nice look at the old walls from the outside.

The area after which the house is named is first mentioned as Westerfle in 1046. Westerflier has been inhabited for centuries by the Van Hövell family, who formed the origin of the noble family Van Hövell tot Westerflier. The current house dates from 1729 and is a simple two-storey mansion.
