A windmill is always worthwhile. De Molenaar sells many types of flour in kilo packs.
On the site of the current mill in the hamlet of Yzevoorde on the Varsseveldseweg there used to be a small stone ground sailor, built in 1856 by B. Vels. Since the mill was in a bad condition, it was demolished in 1920. The 'Buursinkmolen', located in Zelhem, was purchased and transferred to Doetinchem, where it was placed on a stone pedestal.
The mill was purchased by the municipality of Doetinchem in the late 1970s, after which restoration began.
After the restoration, the mill was officially opened in all its splendor in 1980. It has become a fine example of mill construction with its shale covering.
The mill, which initially bore the name "Velsmolen", was renamed "Benninkmolen" after its restoration in 1980. The board of the Doetinchemse Molens Foundation has decided to change the name, because the Bennink family has been so closely associated with this mill since its rebuilding in 1921 that it was generally referred to as the "Bennink mill" or "Benninksmolen".
