The locals like to call the graduation tower in Bad Sooden-Allendorf the vertical North Sea because of the very salty air here, which is particularly beneficial for people with respiratory problems.
The system was originally built to increase the salt concentration in the brine trickling down the brushwood. This made the subsequent salt production in the neighboring boiling houses easier and cheaper. It was only much later that the health-promoting effects of brine were recognized.
In 2002 the graduation tower was completely rebuilt. It is the core of the spa area in the Sooden district. Immediately next to it are the Werratal Therme, several parks and the historic half-timbered houses of Sooden.

A detour that was worth it. The graduation house in Bad Sooden alone was worth going there. But the lovingly renovated half-timbered houses in Bad Sooden and Allendorf are also well worth seeing.

The graduation house and the old half-timbered houses are worth seeing. Worthwhile is also the spacious spa park with numerous restaurants (cafes and beer gardens) with many outdoor spaces. The town is a focal point of numerous long-distance and area hiking and cycling routes. Especially the view from the Werraubrück to the district Allendorf is worth a detour.

The Werra Castle Trail Hesse (X5H) runs directly through Bad-Sooden-Allendorf. The place is the destination of section 5 (coming from Burg Ludwigstein) and starting point for section 6 (to the Hessian Switzerland).

The plant also supplies the spa center with 12% brine. The brine trickles down over the blackthorn so that as it drips down, it is “graded” (concentrated) up to 25% through the evaporation of water.
It is pleasant to stroll through the covered walkway. The work is also called elegantly: open-air inhalatorium.

Highly recommended are the premium hiking trails. The P7 is initially difficult to find, it's best to start at the inn in the woods, from there it is signposted anyway. One of the premium hiking trails (P8 (?)) Starts in Sickenberg with a very steep climb, but I would always start it from Sickenberg otherwise it would not have to descend so steeply. There is no parking there, if necessary put on the street or ask residents. A fantastic hiking trail, long ridge path, with beautiful views. Always drink plenty of water !! All inns in the small towns are dense, you get nowhere to eat or drink! I recommend a trip to Abterode, there hike the Höllentalweg and marvel at the old ruin, grow in the meter high trees, very magical mood.
